Antibiotic prophylaxis for prevention of postoperative wound infection in adults undergoing open elective inguinal or femoral hernia repair

Updated review (27 studies; n=8308) finds antibiotic prophylaxis for hernioplasty probably reduces all types of wound infections in a high infection risk environment, with little/no difference in a low-risk environment. Evidence for open herniorrhaphy is uncertain.
