Aspirin to prevent pre-eclampsia

Review suggests taking aspirin 75–150 mg/d during pregnancy appears to modestly reduce risk of pre-eclampsia, foetal growth restriction & preterm birth. It should be ideally commenced in early pregnancy at ~12 weeks’ gestation & taken until either 36 weeks’ gestation, or delivery

SPS commentary:

NICE guidance recommends pregnant women at high risk of pre-eclampsia should take 75–150 mg of aspirin daily from 12 weeks until the birth of the baby. Women at high risk are those with any of the following: hypertensive disease during a previous pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, autoimmune disease such as systemic lupus erythematosus or antiphospholipid syndrome, type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and chronic hypertension.
