Association of Cigarette Smoking With Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody–Associated Vasculitis

Study of 473 cases of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) matched with 1419 controls found that cigarette smoking was associated with AAV, especially MPO-ANCA–positive AAV (former smokers: OR, 1.7; 95% CI, 1.3-2.3; current smokers: 3.5; 2.1-6.1)
