Association of New-Onset Atrial Fibrillation After Noncardiac Surgery With Subsequent Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack
US retrospective cohort study (n=452 with matched controls) found new-onset postop AF vs. no AF was linked to significant increased risk of stroke/TIA (18.9 vs 10.0/1000 person-years, HR 2.69, 95%CI 1.35-5.37). Implications such as need for anticoagulants require investigation.
