Association of plasma biomarkers of fruit and vegetable intake with incident type 2 diabetes: EPIC-InterAct case-cohort study in eight European countries

Study found inverse association between plasma vitamin C, carotenoids, and their composite biomarker score, and incident type 2 diabetes, providing evidence from objectively measured biomarkers that even a modest increase in fruit and vegetable intake could help in prevention.

SPS commentary:

Another study (n=18,629) in BMJ reported that higher consumption of total whole grains and several commonly eaten whole grain foods was significantly linked to lower risk of type 2 diabetes, with 29% lower rate in those in highest category for consumption compared with those in the lowest category.
