Carotid Intima-Media Thickness Progression as Surrogate Marker for Cardiovascular Risk: Meta-Analysis of 119 Clinical Trials Involving 100,667 Patients

Analysis found extent of intervention effects on carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) progression predicted degree of CVD risk reduction (each 10 μm/year reduction resulted in relative risk for CVD of 0.91; 95% CI, 0.87-0.94), supporting use as surrogate marker in trials.
