Clinical Characteristics of 58 Children With a Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome Temporally Associated With SARS-CoV-2

Comparison of these children with patients from cohorts with Kawasaki disease (KD) & KD shock syndrome, and toxic shock syndrome provides additional insights into this syndrome, and suggests that it differs from these paediatric inflammatory entities.

SPS commentary:

Authors of a related commentary state Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome (PIMS), which has emerged with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic (PIMS-TS) shares multiple clinical and laboratory features with KD, as another study in this journal (Cheung et al) suggests. They note however, observations of this study by Whittaker and colleagues leads to some speculation regarding the extent to which the aetiology and pathophysiology of KD and PIMS-TS might overlap or share commonalities.
