Compassionate Use of Remdesivir in Children With Severe COVID-19

Paper describes outcomes in 77 children with severe COVID-19 treated with remdesivir. By day 28 of follow-up, 88% of patients had a decreased oxygen-support requirement, 83% recovered, and 73% were discharged; the rate of serious adverse events was low (16%).

SPS commentary:

According to a commentary, although morbidity and mortality rates differ, children hospitalised with acute COVID-19 often have a similar disease course as adults. It suggests the next steps toward paediatric labelling are to identify the most appropriate dose in the paediatric population and ensure safety at that dose.
