COVID-19 and Obesity: The 2021 Atlas

Report finds 2.2 million of the 2.5 million Covid-19-related deaths reported by end of February 2021 were in countries where over half the population is classified as overweight, with findings seemingly independent of factors such as age structure, wealth and reporting capacity

SPS commentary:

The report concludes that the data presented demonstrate how overweight is a predictor of death from COVID-19, and of developing complications, including the need for hospitalisation, intensive care and mechanical ventilation. The authors urge governments to adopt the policies outlined in their Call for Action.
