BMJ editorial: Does timely vaccination help prevent post-viral conditions?
SPS commentary:
It is also reported that the protection levels seen increased with number of doses of vaccine received with protection rates against post-Covid condition of 21%, 59% and 73% calculated for 1, 2 and 3 doses respectively.
In an associated editorial it is pointed out that the incidence rates of post-Covid-19 condition in this study (0.4% in the vaccinated group and 1.4% in the unvaccinated group) were considerably lower than incidences reported by previous studies (9-81%, and a pooled global estimate of 43%). The authors feel that this is most likely due to the fact that previous studies relied on self-reported symptoms, whereas this study used clinician coding to ascertain cases of post-Covid-19 condition.
