Effect of N-acetylcysteine on prevention of contrast-associated acute kidney injury in patients with STEMI undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials

Review (7 RCTs; n= 1710) found those given N-acetylcysteine had a reduced incidence of contrast-associated acute kidney injury vs non-treatment (RR, 0.51, 95% CI 0.31 to 0.82, p<0.01) and all-cause in-hospital mortality (RR 0.37, 95% CI 0.17 to 0.79, p=0.01).
