Effects of tobacco smoking on recurrent hospitalisation with pneumonia: a population-based cohort study

UK study (n=56 396) found smoking status at hospitalisation was associated with readmission with recurrent pneumonia within year of discharge (current vs never smokers; adjusted HR, 1.42; 95% CI 1.32 to 1.53; ex-smokers vs never smokers: 1.24; 1.15 to 1.34; both p<0.001).
