Efficacy and safety of over-the-counter therapies for chronic constipation: an updated systematic review

This review of 41 RCTs found good evidence to recommend senna or polyethylene glycol as 1st line laxatives and moderate evidence for fibre supplements, fruits, stimulant laxatives and magnesium-based products. For others, further validation with more studies is warranted.
