Summary
SPC now advises that chronic co-administration of Kivexa with medicinal products containing sorbitol/other osmotic acting poly-alcohols or monosaccharide alcohols should be avoided. More frequent monitoring of HIV-1 viral load is suggested when this cannot be avoided.

Study of concomitant administration of sorbitol solution (3.2 g, 10.2 g, 13.4 g) with single dose lamivudine oral solution 300 mg resulted in reduction in AUC of lamivudine by 14%; 32%; 36%, respectively, and reduction in Cmax by 28%; 52%, 55%, respectively.
