Bexsero® is the first meningitis B vaccine to be launched in the UK.
Chapter 22 of The Green Book (last updated in May 2013) notes that this vaccine has been licensed, but it was not available on the UK market at the time. It states that no decision has yet been made regarding its introduction into the routine childhood immunisation schedule.
In July 2013, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) published an interim position statement which concluded that current evidence is insufficient to support a recommendation for the introduction of Bexsero® as a routine adolescent immunisation. The JCVI sought comment and feedback from stakeholders to inform further deliberations, and the submissions received included references to new and recently published evidence and further analyses are necessary to respond fully. The required analyses are being commissioned, and the interim position statement cannot be updated until these analyses are complete.
