This tool measures the number of emergency admissions of patients recorded as having a severe bacterial infection and categorised as having “suspicion of sepsis,” rather than just those coded as having sepsis. It collects data on around 200 common bacterial infection and sepsis diagnostic codes documented at the end of patients’ admission to hospital, after excluding conditions mimicking infection.
