Summary
A retrospective analysis of 4847 pregnancies exposed to β-blockers during the first trimester, suggests after adjusting for maternal age, maternal body mass index, and maternal comorbidities, there was no association between exposure and foetal congenital cardiac anomalies.

According to the UK Teratology Information Service, labetalol is the only beta-blocker licensed in the UK for the treatment of hypertension in pregnancy and NICE guidelines state that labetalol is the preferred antihypertensive for use in pregnancy.
