A BMJ commentary highlights that whether taking calcium channel blockers would increase a woman’s risk of breast cancer has been much debated. A case control study published in 2013 found that women who used calcium channel blockers to treat hypertension for at least 10 years had greater odds of having ductal breast cancer and lobular breast cancer. The researchers of the current study said that many of the previous prospective studies have been limited by the small number of breast cancer cases included, because they have focused on the general population.
