Summary
This analysis of health records data (2006-2016) found an increase in uptake of oral anticoagulants in patients with AF and a CHA2DS2-VASc score ≥2 was associated with a decline in AF-related stroke (1% increase in use associated with a 0.8% decrease in weekly stroke rate).

The authors discuss the limitations of their study and note that the association reported was descriptive only (unable to prove causality), but suggest based on their findings that 4068 (95% CI 4046–4089) more strokes would have been predicted in 2015/2016, if the use of anticoagulants had remained at 2009 levels.
