A related commentary discusses this research. It highlights concerns from anti-vaccine groups in the US that too many vaccines weaken a child’s immune system. The present study provides further reassurance to parents in the US that vaccines do not increase the risk of non-vaccine targeted infections, but simply providing scientific information and assuming parents will make the decision to vaccinate is not enough. Delivering evidence-based information to parents and clinicians in ways that inspire confidence in the robust and safe childhood immunization schedule is critical for maintaining the health of children.
