This analysis of data from the African American Study of Kidney Disease, which had randomly allocated patients to strict BP control (mean arterial pressure <92 mm Hg) or usual BP control (mean arterial pressure 102-107 mm Hg).
This report also put together these findings with extended follow-up results from the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease study. In meta-analysis the unadjusted relative risk for mortality for strict vs standard bp control was 0.87 (0.76-0.99), and the unadjusted relative risk of end stage renal disease was 0.88 (0.78-1.00)
