Recent in vitro and animal studies have found lansoprazole to be highly active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), whilst omeprazole and pantoprazole have no activity. Although these results do not directly address the question of whether lansoprazole would be effective as part of a treatment regimen for MTB infection or TB disease, the researchers suggest that since it is safe and well-tolerated, there is a strong case for efficacy studies in humans.
