Summary
Among 657 individuals who initiated Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV with Truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate), there were no reports of new HIV infections, despite high rates of sexually transmitted infections and a decrease in condom use.

Separately, results from the recently published PROUD RCT in 544 HIV-negative gay and other men who have sex with men, and who had had anal intercourse without a condom in the previous 90 days, found daily tenofovir–emtricitabine conferred higher protection against HIV than in placebo-controlled trials.
