Summary
Network meta-analysis (n=13,574) found that NOACs are superior, vs warfarin, in reducing stroke or systemic embolisation, MI and intracranial haemorrhage in AF and valvular heart disease. Analysis of 280 patients with AF and bioprosthetic heart valve showed similar outcomes.
UKMi comment
The following additional results were presented:
Data combining all NOACs showed a significant reduction in stroke or systemic embolisation, MI and intracranial haemorrhage (0.70, [0.57 to 0.85; p<0.001]; 0.70 [0.50 to 0.99; p<0.002]; and 0.46 [0.24 to 0.86; p<0.01], respectively) compared to warfarin.
Rivaroxaban is associated with a higher risk of bleeding and edoxaban 30 mg is least associated with significant bleeding.
