An editorial notes whilst the authors conclude that the findings of this study challenge the conventional recommendation to give inhaled corticosteroids only to patients who have symptoms on more than 2 days per week, and suggest that guidelines should take into account the potential to reduce the population-level risk of serious asthma-related events, even if day to day symptoms are not burdensome, this is a post-hoc analysis and does not provide conclusive evidence. The editorial notes that even if the findings were proven in randomised controlled trials, their clinical relevance could still be disputed and highlights the various concerns which would need to be alleviated.
