Summary
Among 65,384 TPA treated patients with acute ischaemic stroke, median onset-to-treatment time was 141 mins and 878 patients (1.3%) were treated within first 60 mins. Thrombolysis started within first 60 mins after onset is associated with best outcomes vs. within 61 to 270 mins.

An editorial notes that these are not novel findings; prior studies have found similar correlations, but the present study does highlight both the importance of rapid therapy and the challenge of achieving such therapy. Prior studies have estimated that in the setting of an acute stroke, every minute of delay results in ~1.9 million neurons dying.
