Summary
French study of 159 patients ultimately treated by mechanical thrombectomy, of which 100 received IV thrombolysis before transport to a more fully equipped hospital, and 59 did not, found no difference in functional independence at 3 months after stroke between the 2 groups.

An editorial discusses the changing face of stroke treatment since 1995 and makes suggestions for all stroke centres including the need for efforts to upgrade personnel and training and brain and vascular imaging technology at primary stroke centres, and appropriate training of ambulance personnel to recognise strokes.
