Summary
Summed pain intensity difference from baseline to 48 hours was reported to be better in the sufentanil group compared with placebo (P < 0.001) in this phase III trial (n=419), although patients on sufentanil reported a higher incidence of nausea and pruritus.
UKMi comment
The US FDA has previously issued a negative opinion for the approval of sufentanil for moderate to severe pain. The drug is not currently available in the UK.
