Early versus delayed initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy for HIV-positive adults with newly diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis (TB-HAART): a prospective, international, randomised, placebo-controlled trial

In 1538 HIV patients with TB, the primary endpoint (failure of TB treatment, TB recurrence, or death) was reached by 8•5% vs 9.2% in the early ART and delayed ART group, respectively, (RR 0•91; p=0•9) suggesting that ART could be deferred until after TB treatment is completed.
