Summary
RCT (n=121) found that postoperative scheduled IV paracetamol, combined with IV propofol or dexmedetomidine, reduced in-hospital delirium vs placebo 10% vs 28%, HR 2.8, 95% CI 1.1-7.8). There was no difference in delirium for dexmedetomidine vs propofol.

Authors highlight that additional research, including comparison of IV vs oral paracetamol and other potentially opioid-sparing analgesics, on the incidence of postoperative delirium is warranted.
