The authors of an accompanying Comment note that the use of alpha blockers to facilitate urinary stone passage has increased in popularity, despite the lack of good quality evidence.
This is the first well-designed and adequately powered RCT to their knowledge addressing this issue and they say that the results “remove, beyond any reasonable doubt, any positive expectations with respect to α blockers in the treatment of ureter stones” and they also eliminate doubt over whether one drug may be better than the other.
