Multiple-dose versus single-dose ivermectin for Strongyloides stercoralis infection (Strong Treat 1 to 4): a multicentre, open-label, phase 3, randomised controlled superiority trial

This RCT (n=309) reports single dose ivermectin was as effective as multi-dose ivermection: at 12 months, 86% vs 85% respectively achieved clearance of S stercoralis (risk difference 1.48%, 95% CI −7.55 to 10.52; p=0.75); adverse events were more common in the multi-dose group.

A related editorial discusses the findings of this study, highlighting one limitation of the study is that only about half of the patients (n=163) had suspected strongyloidiasis (ie, positive serology but no detection of larvae in faeces, which is the gold-standard for diagnosis of strongyloidiasis).
