According to an editorial, several billion people are believed to have asymptomatic latent TB infection and thus are at risk for progression to symptomatic TB disease. It suggests that attempts to prevent TB are likely to be most efficient, and also most socially just, if they are integrated with interventions to strengthen diagnosis and cure. In addition, attempts to increase the quality of preventive therapy should be integrated with socioeconomic interventions to facilitate equitable access to health care while also addressing the social determinants that drive the TB epidemic.
