Summary
RCT (n=579) reports calcium 1.5g daily which commenced before pregnancy until 20 weeks' gestation vs. placebo, did not show significant reduction in recurrent pre-eclampsia; which occurred in 23% vs. 29% of women, respectively (risk ratio 0·80, 95% CI 0·61–1·06; p=0·121).
UKMi comment
Authors report however, that as the trial was powered to detect a large effect size, they cannot rule out a small to moderate effect of this intervention.
