Summary
In this study (n=1253) ramucirumab improved survival compared to placebo, both in addition to docetaxel, in the second-line treatment of patients with stage IV NSCLC after platinum-based first-line chemotherapy (median of 10.5 v 9.1 months; HR 0.86, 95% CI 0.75-0.98; p=0.023).
UKMi comment
The numerical benefit in terms of overall survival in this study was 1.4 months; the authors of an accompanying Comment note that this is a small difference in a population with relatively good prognostic features (all had an ECOG performance status of 0 or 1 and 60% were aged <60 years). They say that in the absence of a predictive biomarker, it is not known which patients will benefit from treatment with ramucirumab.
