Predominant clinical features in the women included pruritic descending macular or maculopapular rash, arthralgias, conjunctival injection, and headache; 28% had fever (short-term and low-grade). Adverse findings included foetal deaths (5 foetuses), ventricular calcifications or other central nervous system lesions (7 foetuses) and abnormal amniotic fluid volume or cerebral or umbilical artery flow (7 foetuses). The authors highlight that despite mild symptoms, ZIKV infection in pregnancy appears to be associated with grave outcomes for the foetus.
