FDA is recommending that dosing of sodium polystyrene sulfonate is separated from other orally administered medicines by at least 3 hours as a study has found that it binds to many commonly prescribed oral medicines, decreasing their absorption and effectiveness.

Sodium polystyrene sulfonate is available in UK as Resonium A for the treatment of hyperkalaemia in renal patients. Its SPC does not currently contain such administration advice.
