Summary
Pooled data from 5 RCTs found no survival benefit of early goal directed therapy (EGDT). The included trials are not sufficiently homogeneous and potential confounding factors in the negative trials might bias the results and diminish treatment effect of EGDT.

EGDT used in the context of sepsis is an approach which involves adjustments of cardiac preload, afterload, and contractility to balance oxygen delivery with oxygen demand.
