Since this review, new temporary safety measures have been introduced for ulipristal following reports of serious liver injury in women using it for uterine fibroids, including not initiating it in new users or in those between treatment courses, while an EU-wide review of the evidence is ongoing. Monthly liver function tests should now also be performed in women being treated with ulipristal and transaminase levels checked immediately in current or recent users who present with signs or symptoms suggestive of liver injury.
