Individual Differences in Response to Antidepressants: A Meta-analysis of Placebo-Controlled Randomized Clinical Trials

In meta-analysis of 91 RCTs (n=18 965) on use of antidepressants (ADs) in major depression, no evidence was found of more variability in response to ADs than to placebo and does not provide empirical support for personalizing AD treatment based solely on total depression scores.

SPS commentary:

According to editorial, this is the fifth meta-analysis of the same data set. This current study updates the data set with more recent trials and again finds a negative result based on regression-based estimation method. It discussed how the results should be interpreted and recommends that future studies need to be powered to detect heterogeneity of treatment effects interactions.
