Intensive Statin Therapy Versus Upfront Combination Therapy of Statin and Ezetimibe in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Propensity Score Matching Analysis Based on the PL‐ACS Data

Polish study found upfront use of the combination of statin and ezetimibe was associated with lower mortality than use of statin monotherapy (n=768 matched pairs) in patients with acute coronary syndromes (e.g. 3.5% v 5.9% at 1 year [p=0.041]; 5.5% v 10.2% at 3 years [p=0.024]).

SPS commentary:

The limitations of this research, highlighted by the authors, include the lack of information from the registry on statin dosage, possible confounders such as diet and lifestyle, co-morbidities, compliance, possible therapy switches during follow-up and drug-related adverse effects.
