Interventions for preventing silent cerebral infarcts in people with sickle cell disease
Review of 5 RCTs (n=660) found that long-term red blood cell transfusions may reduce the incidence of silent cerebral infarcts in children with abnormal transcranial doppler velocities. Switching to hydroxyurea with phlebotomy may increase the risk of silent cerebral infarcts.
