National criteria for prompt intravenous-to-oral switch (IVOS) of antimicrobials in children and young people (including newborns)
Guidance contains 29 intravenous-to-oral switch criteria categorised into 5 sections. These criteria were developed through completion of a rapid systematic literature review to validate selection, and a UK-wide consensus process involving 170 multidisciplinary participants.

Antimicrobial intravenous-to-oral switch: criteria for prompt switch
SPS commentary:
National antimicrobial intravenous-to-oral switch (IVOS) criteria for adults was developed in 2022. Paediatric criteria are now also available. The criteria cover 5 sections, including timing of IV antimicrobial review, clinical signs and symptoms, infection markers, enteral route and special considerations.
The criteria for children and young people differ from the adult criteria, with the addition of palatability of the alternative switch option, and other special considerations.
