New partnership pledges clear and consistent evidence-based guidance on medicines for pregnant and breastfeeding women

The Safer Medicines in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Consortium is a partnership of 16 leading organisations who are working together to improve the health information available to women who are planning pregnancy, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

SPS commentary:

The Consortium, which spans the NHS, regulators and leading third sector and charitable organisations, has agreed an information strategy setting out how members will work together. Healthcare professionals are asked to report important inconsistencies in UK advice on the use of medicines in pregnancy or breastfeeding via their email: safermeds@mhra.gov.uk.
