Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for musculoskeletal pain

This practice article discusses treatment of musculoskeletal pain, illustrated with a case study. Oral NSAIDs can reduce pain but increase the risk of gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and renal side-effects. Opioids do not provide greater pain relief and may cause serious harms.
