Practical prescribing: proton pump inhibitors

The first in this new BMJ series, which aims to improve decision making, discusses proton pump inhibitors, including how they work, what to discuss with the patient before starting treatment, adverse effects, what to consider when prescribing, and when to stop the prescription.

SPS commentary:

The BMJ in conjunction with the Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin has commissioned a series of articles on practical prescribing. These articles will highlight important issues for prescribers to consider and prompts for shared decision making between prescribers, patients, and their carers. The series, targeted at all prescribers, will cover medicines commonly prescribed in primary and secondary care.
