Predictors of Prolonged Opioid Use After Initial Prescription for Acute Musculoskeletal Injuries in Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Observational Studies

Review of 13 retrospective studies, 11 from US (1 cohorts ;n>13 million) found prevalence of 27% for prolonged opioid (OP) use after musculoskeletal injury in high risk-& 6% in low risk populations. Authors recommend avoiding use of OPs and where needed, restricting use to 7 days
