Preoperative oral antibiotics and surgical-site infections in colon surgery (ORALEV): a multicentre, single-blind, pragmatic, randomised controlled trial

RCT (n-536) shows oral antibiotics administered 24 hours prior to colon surgery reduces surgical site infection vs no antibiotics (incidence of surgical-site infection 5% vs 11% respectively, OR 0.41, 95% CI 0.20–0.80; p=0.008).
