Preparing for a challenging winter 2020/21

This report warns that in the reasonable worst-case scenario, there will be a peak in hospital admissions and deaths in Jan/Feb 2021 of a similar magnitude to that seen in spring 2020, with an estimated 119,900 hospital deaths between September 2020 and June 2021.

SPS commentary:

The report states that July and August must be a period of intense preparation for the reasonable worst-case scenario.  To maximise their effectiveness (and to ensure they do not exacerbate inequalities), preparations for winter must be informed by engagement with patients, carers, public and healthcare professionals and, whenever possible, be developed through co-production.
