Prevalence and Prevention of Contact Dermatitis Caused by FreeStyle Libre: A Monocentric Experience

This retrospective review (n=1,036) found cutaneous adverse event occurred in 5.5% (57/1036) of FreeStyle Libre users, and 3.8% (39/1036) suffered from acute contact dermatitis due to the allergen isobornyl acrylate. Barrier films had limited value in prevention.

SPS commentary:

In January 2019, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency warned users of FreeStyle Libre not to use barrier methods (creams, sprays or patches) to reduce skin reactions as they may affect device performance.
